“These guys…they’re total badasses. Professional soldiers. They can kick ass like you’d never believe. They go into situations no one else would dare. They take chances, and they’ll do whatever it takes to rescue women.”Susan Stoker, Defending Chloe, p. 118
You want a book (or series really) that gets you all hot and bothered – making you want to jump the next hot and steamy guy you come across? Then I highly recommend putting these books on your reading list.
Defending Chloe is just as good as Defending Allye. It’s packed with action and had me flying through the pages within days, it was hard to put down. This book allows us to stay in the lives of Gray and Allye but not as much as we are in the first book of course, as this book is about Ro and Chloe. They have become my favorite couple thus far – they are so adorable! Especially with Ronan’s British accent – I start to melt just thinking about it. Other than his accent I love how he doesn’t body shame Chloe. She isn’t your usual “skinny” girl that seems to be typical within romance novels and it allows us more “curvy” girls feel like we are loved, too.
Another thing I really liked about this book is that they go about saving Chloe in a different manner when she finds herself in a different, but somewhat similar, situation that Allye had found herself in. Chloe’s ass of a brother, Leon, decides it’s time that his sister pay her dues and starts selling her out at the club he owns, BJ’s, a strip club. And all because she has half a billion hidden in a bank account that he wants and she doesn’t even know about. He can’t kill her because then he would be screwed at even having a chance of getting the money from her so instead he sells her out at his club as well as tries to marry her off to one of his friends in order to make it so he can get his hands on it that way. Well, he’s got another thing coming. But here comes Ro to the rescue! When Chloe mysteriously shows up outside his garage at his home that’s tucked and out of the way from the civilization of Colorado Springs, and wearing next to nothing, not to mention looking uncomfortable, he knows that something isn’t right with the situation that Chloe has found her in. And all because he can’t get her out of his mind he makes it his and the Mountain Mercenaries mission to save her. Save her he does.
There is quite a bit of action at the beginning of the book, just like that in Defending Allye, however, it tapers off some in the middle of the book, allowing the reader to really get to know Chloe and Ro and fall in love with the both of them as they fall in love with each other. And once again those love scenes…they’ll have you drooling all over yourself. My skin is heating up just thinking about them. The action comes back full force and it caught me up even more so than the first book. Not only is Chloe “kidnapped” by Ro’s friends and teammates in order to save her from the clutches (or car really) and then she ends up getting kidnapped right from Ro’s home. It brought quite a twist and shock as to who took her the second time and the entire time I was reading through those ending chapters I couldn’t seem to read fast enough. I kept repeating in my mind how Ro better get his ass there quicker than he and his team were before something really bad happens to Chloe and he loses her forever.
As with the first book of the series, Defending Chloe, is so worth the read as is the rest of the series, especially if you’re like me and you want to see each of the guys on the team find the person they are meant to fall in love with. And let’s not forget those smoking hot love scenes! Susan Stoker has quite a few different series and I’m hoping, when I finally get a chance to read them, they turn out to be just as good as the Mountain Mercenaries series.
About Defending Chloe
Gorgeous women don’t just stumble onto Ronan Cross’s remote property, but this one – vulnerable, victimized, and needing the kind of help only Ronan can offer – tells a story that makes his blood boil almost as hot as his need to protect her.
Since her father’s sudden death, Chloe Harris has become a prisoner of her own brother. Leon, a flesh peddler and low-level player in the Denver Mafia, is forcing her to sell her body for an endgame Chloe never saw coming – control over a vast fortune. Her only way out is to run – straight into the arms of the only man she can trust.
Defending Chloe could rain punishment down on the Mountain Mercenaries. Her brother has Mob connections and the local police are in his pocket. But Ronan still has an edge – the unshakable loyalty of his deadly teammates – as well as an unquenchable thirst for retribution, not to mention falling for Chloe.
