“But you can’t win love, can you? Not like an award or a game. … But I guess I need to know I’m the one. I can’t work my way into being the one for him. I just have to be the one.”

Nora Roberts, Savor the Moment, p 180

Savor the Moment was my second favorite book within the series as I really enjoyed Laurel’s character, not to mention the damn book had me teary-eyed from the beginning when Mrs. G gave Laurel the check for her first semester at the cooking school she wanted to go to in NYC.

The book focuses on how Laurel finally decides it’s time to take what she wants most in life, besides being the pastry chef for the wedding business that her and her friends, Mac, Emma, and Parker have created, she has set her mind on getting Delaney Brown. Well, actually, she’s had her sights set on him since they were children but she has finally gained the courage to follow her heart and try to get Del to realize that they could be more than just friends, show him that she believes that they actually belong together in a romantic fashion. One of my favorite parts of the book is actually when she grabs onto Delaney’s tie and yanks him to her, laying a hot and steamy kiss on him that he wasn’t expecting at all. After I had closed my jaw from surprise myself, I laughed so much as I could picture perfectly how Del would look after she laid one on him. It always makes me happy to see a woman take control of a situation and go for what she wants and Laurel did just that in the most perfect way as she didn’t give him a chance to think twice about if it was a good idea or not.

I think that Laurel is the most down-to-earth out of all the characters that are within the stories for the Bride Quartet series as she didn’t have the same upbringing as the others had as her parents were always strapped for cash thanks to her father’s bad investments and an IRS audit. This made Laurel really have to fight for what she wanted in life. However, it also made her believe that Delaney Brown was completely out of her league as he came from money, and well, her family didn’t have much of anything at all. But thankfully she finally came around to realize that she can have pretty much anything she wanted as long as she put the effort into getting it, which, along with a bit of champagne, brought her around to finally doing as she had always wanted and kissed Del’s brains out which then started one of the sweetest love stories.

Delaney on the other hand, always thought of Laurel, as he does with Emma and Mac, as honorary sisters so it made no surprise that it’s a bit more difficult for him to wrap his head around actually getting into a relationship with her. Just like most hard-headed men in the stories I read, he made me frustrated and had me visualizing slapping him upside the head for fighting against his feelings on how he truly thought about Laurel and the life he wanted with her. But of course in the end, after much debate between the two because how can you have a love story without conflict at some point, they both get what they want, each other. And let’s not forget the ring on the finger!

About Savor the Moment

Laurel McBane has always relied on her friends for support, especially when her dream of attending culinary school was almost ruined by her parents’ financial problems. Now Laurel is repaying the kindness of her friends by creating extravagantly luscious tiers of cakes and other confectionary delights that add the perfect touch to their clients’ weddings.

As for romance, Laurel believes in it — in theory. But she’s too low-key to appreciate all the luxuries that other women seem to long for. What she does appreciate is a strong, intelligent man, a man just like Parker’s older brother, Delaney Brown, on whom Laurel has had a mega crush since childhood.

But some infatuations last longer than others, and Laurel is convinced that the Ivy League lawyer is still out of her reach. Plus, Del is too protective of Laurel to ever cross the line with her, or so she thinks. When Laurel’s quick-silver moods get the better of her — leading to an angry, hot, altogether mind-blowing kiss with Del — she’ll have to quiet the doubts in her mind to turn a moment of passion into forever…
