“Can’t do much about it as person‘s the root of personal. We can’t stop being people, or it wins.”

Nora Roberts, The Hollow, page 131

If you have taken the time to read my first post for Sign of Seven: Blood Brothers and you have made your way here to find out a bit more about The Hollow then I’m glad that it has caught your interest as it has mine. If you are reading this post first, or last as there is another one for The Pagan Stone, I would then recommend starting with the Blood Brothers post to get a better idea of how things have come about. Up to you.

Let’s talk about Fox, shall we, and I don’t mean the animal. I’ll try and avoid any spoilers but it may be a hard task as there is so much that goes on within the three books. I don’t know about others, but the second book kept my interest just as much as the first. Fox and Layla have a sweetness to them that it makes it hard not to like them. Fox is the kind-hearted soul that brings reason to the group and one that finds it hard to keep his feelings at bay. Except for the one secret that only Caleb and Gage know about that he has kept for years. Something that breaks him every time things start to happen in the Hollow. Something that would for sure break anyone and makes you feel unbelievable sympathy for Fox. Layla however, is one that keeps her emotions bottled up tight. To me, I wish Layla had a bit more spirit in her instead of constantly hiding within herself. I was happy to find that the further I went into the book the more she came out of her shell and started to fight for herself, for her friends, for what she really wanted. I just wish it happened more sooner rather than later.

About The Hollow

The bonding ritual that Caleb, Fox, and Gage believed to be an innocent pack made between friends to become blood brothers has brought out a force that has come to destroy Hawkins Hollow and those that live within it. Now, as the dreaded month of July, the seventh month, comes towards them, they are plagued by death and destruction only they can see. This year is different though, a year that will give them a better fighting chance against that evil as they now have the help of Quinn, Layla, and Cybil; three women who are somehow connected to the demon, just as the men, Caleb, Fox, and Gage, are connected to the one that trapped it.

Fox O’Dell is as kind as they come. He grew up in a self-sufficient and very loving home. He was able to go up to see the love between his parents and how they cared for their family as well as helping those around Hawkins Hollow that needed it, no questions asked. He went on to become The Hollow’s town lawyer, continuing to help those that were in need. Ever since that fateful day at the Pagan Stone, his life has not been the same. He has learned to block things out of his mind when needed but also learned to use them when it was necessary as, since that day when he turned the ripe age of 10 and completed a blood sacrifice with his close friends, Caleb and Gage, he has been able to read the minds of others. Year after year he continues to fight alongside his blood brothers, fighting against the demon, Twisse, that came back through the Pagan Stone and the evil that he has brought down on the small town of Hawkins Hollow. No matter what Fox has to endure, he was not going to let Twisse get the best of them and allow him to destroy what wasn’t his.

Then there is Layla Darnell, Fox’s other half you could say. She has also been able to read the minds of others for as long as she could remember, but it’s not something she has ever admitted to anyone. It’s also something that scares her. She fights the connection that she has with Fox because of this fear, but he works day and night with her to get her to trust him, to trust in them. Not only does he want to help her hone her skill to help them fight against the evil coming for them, but he wants to get closer to her as he has feelings for her that neither were expecting to have.
